NORTHERN BEACHES COUNCIL MEETING 27 September 2016
At the Northern Beaches Council meeting 27 September 2016 the Administrator Mr. Dick Persson in relation to the Draft Mona Vale Place Plan made the following comments:-
- The increased density would be “controversial” but Mona Vale needed to follow Manly’s lead.
- “I love going to Manly, there are some things I would like to fix in Manly, but it has that feel about it,” he said at last week’s council meeting.
- “I didn’t get that (in Mona Vale) ... there were too many streets and cars, it was spread out and didn’t work.”
The comments from Mr Persson are very concerning. Why does Mona Vale need to be like Manly. Mr. Persson, maybe the locals in Mona Vale don't want it to be like Manly. It you want the Manly "Feeling" then go to Manly, don't come to Mona Vale.
It sounds like Mr. Persson has already made his mind up even before the Mona Vale Place Plan goes on Public Exhibition.
This is very concerning at a troublesome time, there are no Councillors to talk to about this, no local representation, the decision on this Place Plan and the future for Mona Vale can be made by just 1 (one) person, the Administrator.
Mr Persson has said he was not prepared to make a determination on the proposed trees to be removed in Howard Avenue Dee Why to make way for a bike path, he will leave a decision on this to the next elected council.
Mr Persson has said he was not prepared to make a determination on any changes to the current situation to allow dogs on beaches, he will leave a decision on this to the next elected council.
These are relatively small issues compared to the Mona Vale Place Plan which will transform the whole centre of Mona Vale greatly.
The Save Mona Vale Group would envisage that Mr Persson WILL NOT at the very least be making any determination on the Place Plan and WILL leave a decision on this to the next elected council.
The decision on the Mona Vale Place Plan is too great for 1 (one) person, the Administrator to make.

Mona Vale’s Charms
IN response to Dick Persson’s comment that Mona Vale needs to follow Manly’s lead to justify the construction of more flats at the Mona Vale, the question is “why”? Perhaps it is precisely the reason people live at Mona Vale – because it isn’t like Manly. I believe the charm and appeal of Mona Vale and the upper northern beaches is the smaller village feel created by lower-density housing, mainly freestanding houses, and the two storey retail shopping areas. After all, if we want a change of scenery – “a different feel” – we only have to visit Manly. Susan Crosse, Bayview
