WARATAH STREET BUS STOP MOVED TO
OUTSIDE POST OFFICE IN MONA VALE
On many occasions during on site meetings with Transport for NSW, in written submissions to the B-Line Project Team and correspondence with local Member Rob Stokes the Mona Vale community put forward what was considered a viable alternative to the relocation of the bus stop on Pittwater Road corner of Waratah Street all the way over to Village Park in the north.
This all fell on deaf ears, they didn't want to know about it, their minds were made up, the bus stop was to be relocated 200 metres to the north with the destruction of Village Park in Mona Vale as we have been observing now for many months.
Well isn't it amazing, just in the last week or so Transport for NSW has done precisely what was recommended by the community and the bus stop has been relocated 40 metres to the south to outside the Post Office, but only on a temporary basis.
The notice states this is while road works are in progress. It has however demonstrated that what the community suggested would have worked and observations in the last week indicate it does work very well.
All that would have been needed was an awning or similar to be erected for weather protection and this would have been the perfect outcome. It would have provided connectivity to the shopping centre unlike what will be the case in Village Park with no weather protection for the bus commuters and no connectivity with the closest shop over 100 metres away.
And what about convenience, well access to the Post Office is right at the bus stop but when the final works are complete and the bus stop is moved into Village Park, the distance from the bus stop to the Post Office will be 250 metres across 4 roads 2 of which are not controlled by traffic lights.
Oh and let's not forget the reason the current bus stop had to be moved 200 metres north to Village Park according to Transport for NSW was "It is dangerous for traffic as it is too close to the corner of Waratah Street".
Well guess what, moving it 40 metres south has solved that problem hasn't it, just like the community said it would in written and oral submissions to Transport for NSW and currently their temporary relocation proves this.
